Mike McMeekin has been passionate about civil engineering since his youth, growing up working in his dad’s firm.
Mike’s been with Lamp Rynearson for nearly 40 years, is currently Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors, and has more than 44 years of professional engineering experience encompassing all functions of a private sector engineering firm.
As president of Lamp Rynearson from 1997 to 2017, Mike led the firm to consistent profitability and high levels of employee satisfaction. He instituted formal strategic planning for the firm in 1999 and led development of three strategic plans. Under his leadership, Lamp Rynearson acquired two Colorado firms and one in Kansas City.
During his tenure, Mike has served in project manager and project principal roles for community-changing projects including site preparation and infrastructure associated with Omaha’s Convention Center Arena (CHI Health Center) and associated redevelopment along the Missouri River. Construction costs for this five-year project ultimately exceeded $100 million. From 2006 through 2016, Mike was part of the Program Management Team for the City of Omaha’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Program, a $2.0 billion, 20-year program. Responsibilities included leading both development of Sustainability Guidance and implementation of community enhancements for the program.
Mike is committed to giving back to the community through youth development, volunteering, and leading impactful engineering–based projects.
In 2016, Mike was featured in the Omaha World Herald newspaper (Thanksgiving 2016 section) fittingly called “The Thankful Edition” for his numerous volunteer activities. He has helped refugee high school students with college entrance essays and is currently the Chairman of ACE Mentor Omaha, a nonprofit organization whose mission is piquing the interest of high schoolers in architecture, construction and engineering.
He is involved in dozens of professional and civic efforts to advance engineering, leadership, sustainability, and philanthropy on local and national scales. Over the years, Mike has received countless accolades for his commitment to excellence and contributions to his communities and the engineering field including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Nebraska Durham Award in 2015, the Omaha by Design Laurels Award in 2010, and the Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers Engineer of the Year in 2005.
